Celebrate the 4th of July at the Jones House Community Center in downtown Boone!
Bring a blanket or a chair and come settle beneath the shade of the beautiful maple trees on the lawn of this historic home to enjoy an afternoon of an old-time, down-to-earth celebration of our nation’s independence.
Beginning at 1 p.m. the summer interns of the Blowing Rock Stage Company will perform “Jack in the Park” an adaptation of Jack Tales. Following this interpretation of these traditional mountain stories, Watauga County’s own Orville Hicks will give his rendition of Jack Tales in his own special style. He will also be on hand to sign copies of his books, Mountain Stories~Mountain Roots and Jack Tales and Mountain Yarns as told to Julia Taylor Ebel.
The Watauga Community Band will play patriotic bands beginning at 2 p.m. and until the parade starts at 3 p.m.
In the tradition of true Americana, plenty of watermelons will be served for everyone to enjoy.
The Jones House lawn is the perfect place to enjoy the 4th of July parade.
Everyone is invited to go inside the Jones House throughout the afternoon to look at the Watauga Arts Council gallery exhibits and to tour this 101 year old house.
