Winter Activities on the Blue Ridge Parkway

Winter Activities on the Blue Ridge Parkway

As most of us already know, many Parkway facilities such as visitor's
centers and gift shops have closed for the season. There are, however,
a few Parkway locations that remain open year round. These include
the Peaks of Otter Lodge in VA, the NC Minerals Museum and both the
Folk Art Center and Parkway Destination Center in Asheville, NC.

There are still many opportunities available to those who seek
outdoor adventure in the wintertime. If you like to cross country
ski, or if you own snowshoes, the Parkway is a great place to get
outdoors and find a trail after a big snow. You can find a complete
list of Parkway trails at Virtual Blue Ridge.

Trail maps are also available for selected areas along the Parkway.
If you love to go sledding you can find many great hills to sled down
as well!

When snow is on the Parkway and the road is gated and closed to
vehicle traffic, visitors are welcome to walk or cross country ski in
those areas also. Weather can change rapidly and affect Parkway
closures with little or no notice to travelers. To make sure you
are up to date with the latest road closures visit  call 828-298-0398.
