Relay For Life in Boone - Parkway Lodging

Relay for Life takes off Friday

 

 

The annual Relay for Life takes place this Friday and Saturday at Watauga High School in Boone. The event raises money for the American Cancer Society. This year, 72 teams are participating, and the public also has opportunities to contribute. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Friday, June 19

2 p.m. Begin setting up team tents at Watauga High School

3 - 5 p.m. Pre-recorded music

3 p.m. - until Activities and fund-raisers are being held at various team tents

3 p.m.- until Food available at concession booths and surrounding area

3 - 6:30 p.m. Luminaria for sale at Luminaria Tent
Money may be turned in at Accounting Tent

3 - 11 p.m. Relay Store open

4 - 4:30 p.m. High Country Cloggers / Mini Mountaineers perform - in front of stage

4 - 9 p.m. Silent Auction open for bids

4:45 - 5 p.m. Danita Church performs - on stage

5 p.m. - 12 a.m. Airwalk, Slide and Climbing Wall open - provided by JUMP - tennis courts

5 - 5:30 p.m. Appalachian Rhythm Cloggers perform - in front of stage

5:30 - 6 p.m. Country Magic Cloggers perform - in front of stage

6 - 7 p.m. Worthless Son - in- Laws performs - on stage

6 - 7 p.m. Survivor Registration & Gathering at Survivor Tent across from Field House
(Survivors who did not attend the Survivor Dinner may register now and receive free T-shirt, pin & cap; Caregiver caps also available)

7 - 7:30 p.m. Opening Ceremonies - on stage w/emcee Keith Shew; sound by George Wilson
(Store, Auction & Airwalks closed 7:00 - 7:30 p.m. for Opening Ceremony and 9 - 9:30 p.m. for Luminaria Ceremony)

Survivor Lap
(Please stand beside the track and cheer on the Survivors as they make their lap. After the lap Survivors are invited to come to the center of the field for a special survivor photo. Reception follows at Survivor Tent)

7:30 - 9 p.m. Southern Accent performs - on stage

8 p.m. Parade of Teams
(Teams should walk a lap as a group; carry a sign or banner with your team name)

After Parade of Teams Cake Walk - Lasts until cakes are gone. $1 donation for each round - at Scoreboard Area (team site # 34)

9 p.m. Luminaria Ceremony - on stage
Bringing in of the Relay Torch
Memorial Torches Lit by family members
Silent Luminaria Lap led by bagpiper, Jamie Fish

9 p.m. Bidding closed at Silent Auction
(Items must by picked up & paid for between 9:30 and 10:00 p.m.)

9:30 p.m. - 1 a.m. Bingo in Survivor Tent

9:30 p.m. Blue Country performs - on stage

11:30 p.m. Late Night Movies & Activities - in front of stage (bring a chair!)

Walk All Night!! Camping sites available on practice field.

Any team member who walks 20 laps or more is eligible for a prize. See your team captain to sign up for times to walk on your team walking log.
