New Zipline to open in Hawksnest - Blue Ridge Cabin Rentals

Zipping Over Hawksnest
New course opens in Seven Devils

By Melanie Marshall C/O Mountain Times

Soon you will no longer need snow to enjoy family fun at Hawksnest Resort in Seven Devils.

The owners of Hawksnest will be opening a zipline course in a few weeks.

Several members of the community and media were invited to try out the first four cables. Though hesitant about a zipline, I went to Hawksnest.

I have never experienced a zipline and was a little concerned that the height and/or speed would scare me. However, the harness, while not flattering, was comfortable and felt secure.

The position of the zipline provides fantastic views as the rider glides along through the valley. I am looking forward to returning when the full course is complete.

The course is currently under construction and owner Lenny Cottom expects to open in mid-June. This course will be largest on the East Coast, with more than two miles of riding.

The 13 different cables travel over the area of the old golf course and riders glide over trees, creeks and snow tubers, in the winter months. The course will feature a SuperZip cable that is over 2,500 feet in length and more than 200 feet high.

Universal Zip Line Technology, based in Westfield, is constructing the course. Over the last eight years, the company has built courses in North Carolina, Tennessee, Costa Rica and Ecuador.

Tours of the course are scheduled to start at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Reservations are required and must consist of at least two people. Children must be 5 years old to ride.

There three tour packages available. The first consists of 12 cables for $65. The first six cables and the SuperZip cable are also $65. Riders can also ride the full 13 cables and the SuperZip for $90.

Ashe, Avery and Watauga county residences will receive a $15 discount on any of the above prices with a driver’s license as proof of residency.

Tickets may be purchased on line by visiting www.hawksnest-resort.com or by calling (800) 822-4295.
