The Mast Farm more remarkable today than in the 1700s.
The Mast Farm Inn and the The Mast Farm Inn School of Cooking are owned and operated by two sisters and their families. There are numerous buildings and cottages for you to enjoy as part of your experience at The Mast Farm. If you’ve never been to The Mast Farm Inn, you need to go at least once in your life.
Today it is completely renovated thanks to the efforts of the Deschamp, Russo, and Siano family. The Valle Crucis community is located just outside Boone, North Carolina and is the location for The Mast Farm and is home to these families.
They are world travelers and spent many a vacation in this area. After falling in love with the culture and the scenery, they purchased The Mast Farm in 1996 and started a massive renovation process that is the pride of the area. Today it is a destination for many a pampered traveler and is recommended by the following:

The Deschamp mother and daughter team cook, teach cooking, and help maintain the organic flower and vegetable gardens. Their restaurant is called, “Simplicity”. Here is what their website has to say about that;

Accomodations at The Mast Farm Inn are very attractive and old fashioned in appearance but not comfort. The rooms and cabins have been renovated for modern living but they all still feel like we’ve just spent the night at Grandma’s house. There are quilts on the beds and things placed nicely on a table that remind you of when things were more simple and appreciated.
You can book a room for a night or come and stay for as long as time will let you be with us here in NC. The main house has several rooms and then the cottages both renovated and now offer romantic getaways or family sleeping spaces. Most packages come with a hearty breakfast which I do not want to miss.
I’m going to book my vacation in the near future. This area is majestic in the Spring and so much is going on this year. Take a look at their website and see if you can plan to be around for some of the fun.

The Mast Farm dates from the late 1700s, when Joseph Mast traveled to the mountains from Randolph County, North Carolina, where he was born in 1764. His father John had settled there after emigrating from Switzerland via Pennsylvania, where his brother remained. Joseph is said to have traded his rifle, his dog, and a pair of leggings for 1000 acres of fertile Watauga River Valley land. The first house, a two-room log cabin, was built around 1810 and remains today as the oldest inhabitable log cabin in Watauga County.
My grandfather of that time knew this Mr. Mast as they both were in the area at the same time and also fled Switzerland at the same time. Just about everyone around here knew each other in the 1700’s.
