Guests Receive 1962 Lift Ticket Price of $5

Forty-eight years ago, it cost less than two gallons-worth of today’s gas to experience a day out on the snow at the High Country’s first ski slope, Appalachian Ski Mountain. Every year for one weekend, though, Appalachian allows guests to slip back into that simpler time, forget about money for a moment and discover the winter wonderland that is Appalachian Ski Mountain.

This Sunday, December 6, Appalachian Ski Mountain will host its 48th Anniversary Celebration in coordination with its opening day. In honor of the anniversary, lift tickets will cost $5 per person—less than the cost of two tanks of gas—for the 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. day session.

“On Sunday, we’ll kick lift ticket prices back to what they were when we first opened in 1962,” said Drew Stanley, Appalachian Terrain Park director.

As an added bonus, because Sunday will be Appalachian’s opening day for the 2009-10 season, the first 100 guests will receive free lift tickets. Guests past the first 100, of course, will only have to pay $5. 

According to Stanley, Appalachian is anticipating cooler temperatures later in the week and its staff is planning to make snow “around the clock on Friday and Saturday so we can get up a good base and get a majority of slopes open,” Stanley said. He added that no snowmaking is anticipated during the opening day session this Sunday, but that staff may blow snow during the night session on Sunday.
